Certificate Recipients

Jackie Wu MMSS, Economics

What sparked your interest in entrepreneurship?

In elementary school, I actually made little paper and cardboard toys to sell to my classmates. I tried to "IPO" by selling "stock" to my classmates for $1 a share, but couldn't adequately explain to my classmates why anyone should buy shares. As a freshman at Northwestern, I took Prof. Syal's IEMS 225 Entrepreneurship class, which it would not be an understatement to say changed the course of my life.

What was your favorite entrepreneurship course?

Prof Syal's IEMS 225: Principles of Entrepreneurship

What has been your greatest takeaway or lesson-learned from an entrepreneurship course?

We can do it. It's possible.

What advice do you have for future certificate pursuers?

Pursue internships and your own startups! The certificate is a great way to get exposure to professors' thinking, ambitious student co-workers, and the Northwestern startup community, but it's really just a marker for your own entrepreneurial efforts.

What are your next steps after graduation or what are you currently doing now?

I'll be traveling in Asia, Europe, and Africa; then a master's program back at NU in Robotics, followed hopefully by founding a company.
