NUvention: Energy Alums of MeterGenius Win Illinois Clean Energy Challenge

Hillary HassCongratulations to the NUvention: Energy alumni of MeterGenius for their first-place win at the Illinois Clean Energy Student Challenge 2014, a state-level business competition sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy.

MeterGenius received a $10,000 cash prize for their software platform that "allows residential consumers to view their electricity consumption data, set an energy budget, and earn rewards for saving energy."

The NUvention: Energy alumni include Hillary Hass of the Weinberg School of Arts and Sciences, Ty Benefiel of the Kellogg School of Management, and Yan Man and Fred Thwaites of the McCormick School of Engineering. McCormick PhD student Yves Xie joined the team as a software engineer.

The Illinois Student Challenge is for university students interested in developing a clean energy business. MeterGenius' win also grants them a place in the Midwest regional Clean Energy Challenge on April 3, 2014 in Chicago. There, they will present to a distinguished panel of investors and industry experts for a chance to move on to the National Clean Energy Business Competition held this summer in Washington D.C.

Clean Energy Trust administers the competition, which has a grand prize of $100,000. Learn more in the video below.
